Oklahoma Car Accident Checklist — What to Do in the First 24 Hours

Oklahoma Car Accident Checklist — What to Do in the First 24 Hours

AT THE SCENE

Step 1 — Check yourself and all passengers for injuries. Do not move anyone who may have a neck or back injury.

Step 2 — Call 911. Request police and emergency medical services even if injuries seem minor. A police report is essential.

Step 3 — Do not admit fault or apologize. Even saying sorry can be used against you.

Step 4 — Exchange information with all drivers — full name, address, phone number, driver license, insurance company and policy number, vehicle make model and plate.

Step 5 — Get contact information from all witnesses.

Step 6 — Photograph everything — all vehicles, damage, license plates, road conditions, traffic signals, skid marks, and any visible injuries.

WITHIN THE FIRST 24 HOURS

Step 7 — Seek medical attention the same day even if you feel fine. Document your injuries with a healthcare provider immediately.

Step 8 — Notify your own insurance company that an accident occurred.

Step 9 — Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company. Politely decline and say you are consulting an attorney.

Step 10 — Contact Warhawk Legal for a free consultation. The sooner we begin investigating the stronger your case will be.
